Emily C. Cruikshank

Emily C. Cruikshank was admitted to the Maryland Bar in 2018. She is a member of the Maryland State Bar, the Maryland State Bar Estates & Trusts and Elder Law & Disability Rights Sections, the Maryland Hispanic Bar Association, and the Bar Association of Frederick County Young Lawyer’s Section.

Emily graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park in 2013 with a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology and Criminal Justice. She attended law school at the University of Baltimore School of Law, where she was involved in the Student Bar Association, the Black Law Students Association, and the Thurgood Marshall Mock Trial team. During her time in law school, she also clerked for a state senator and a prominent Maryland lobbying firm. Upon graduation in 2018, Emily served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Julia A. Martz-Fisher of the Frederick County Circuit Court. This experience allowed her to develop a thorough analysis of many different areas of the law while also refining her litigation skills.

Prior to joining Byrd & Byrd, Emily was an Assistant State’s Attorney in Charles County, Maryland. She was responsible for representing the state of Maryland in criminal prosecutions. Because of the nature of the types of cases she handled, she learned to remain objective and composed regardless of the severity of facts before her.

Emily is a proud, life-long Marylander. Although she currently resides with her husband across the river in Alexandria, Virginia, she does not waste the opportunity to wear her Maryland flag gear wherever possible. In her spare time, she likes to attend live sporting events and is an avid Denver Broncos fan.
